Everything's Relative

Secrets. Surprises. Spit.

After a phone call turns her world upside down, Eve uses heart and humor to explore the changing landscape of modern DNA testing. By talking with others who have had “DNA discoveries,” Eve hopes to change the conversation around secrets, shame, family, and identity.

When the truth surprises, we talk about it.

There is a global phenomenon, since the availability of direct-to-consumer DNA tests, of people discovering they are not who they thought they were, or aren’t related to the folks they thought were their parents. Secrets are uncovered like donor conception, adoption, and infidelity. I use my skills as a therapist to engage with my guests with empathy, to ask insightful questions, and reflect with listeners about broader implications of the human experience within the DNA-Discovery phenomenon.

  • Great journal with thought provoking questions!

“As an avid listener to Eve’s podcast I was excited to see this workbook. It is a prompted journal that walks you through processing misattributed parentage. There is plenty of room to write, and there aren’t questions that feel like they lack meaning or purpose. For many counseling is hard to come by for various reasons, and in this particular community there are not many professionals who even know how to address these discoveries, so this journal is what I imagine it would be like to work with someone who actually understands, who can help you go through the experience in a safe and supportive space. These are also fantastic conversation starters for for friends and family who want to be supportive but don’t know how to bring it up or what questions to ask.”

  • Therapy in a book!

“You are not going to find much out there to help you on your healing path when it comes to a true identity crisis. This is a true gem! I am beyond grateful to have found this processing journal and the author, Eve, who created it. Pair these writing prompts with her online journal course and you will bond with those on the same healing journey as yourself. Priceless!”

  • The best journal I've found if you've had a DNA discovery.

“I've had this journal for almost a year now. It's very well loved. I take it with me often in my book bag. I love how each prompt has plenty if room to answer. I’m slowly working through it with my therapist, I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you Eve for creating this journal! It's been so helpful.”
